Eastern University Games Trials

We are looking for players to represent the University of Newcastle at the 2017 Eastern University Games (EUG’s) held in Newcastle. The Eastern University games will run from Sunday the 2^nd of July to Thursday the 6^th of July. The team trials will be held on Sunday the 2^nd of April.

The Eastern University Games is traditionally a singles event (although this is subject to possible change). Players are divided into pools where they play-off in a round robin format. The results of the pool matches will then dictate the positions for the following compass draw. At the completion of the event, each player will have an individual rank for the tournament.

We are able to select four players for each team (Men’s and Women’s teams) whose final rankings contribute towards our University Teams’ results. Although only four players will count towards each team’s overall score, we have previously been permitted to enter additional players (who do not count towards our final score). Typically competitors will play 2-3 matches per day, starting as early as 8am and finishing around 4pm.

The social program involves themed parties at popular night clubs each night (the entry fee to which is included in the tournament registration). These events are of course not compulsory, although they are strongly encouraged!

The EUG’s can be an expensive event so please consider this before registering for the trials. Registration typically costs around $100, with additional fees associated with the social program. Fortunately, as the event is Newcastle this year, accommodation and travel costs are not an issue.

The teams will be selected on the basis of tennis ability during the trial session on Sunday, April the 2^nd. The trial will commence at 9am at the Broadmeadow Tennis Courts (Topspin Tennis). A complimentary BBQ will be provided by the UON Tennis Club at the conclusion of the trials (approximately 1pm). Players will be welcome to join the UON Tennis Club Sunday Social which commences at 1pm also.

Trial attendance is crucial. If you are interested in trialing for the EUG’s but are unable to attend the trial day, you must contact either Matt Heitmeyer (UON Tennis Club Competitive Events Director) or Sam Stephens (UON Tennis Club President) ASAP to make alternative arrangements (details below).
